Cast Iron, Americast , and Steel tubs:
These units have a porcelain finish that is baked on at a high temperature. In the non-skid areas, an acrylic bristle brush or an acrylic pad will be necessary along with a cleanser, such as Comet or Bar Keepers Friend. The smooth surfaces should not be difficult to clean with a non-abrasive cleanser.
Acrylic units:
The surface of these units are made of thick acrylic and the recommended cleaners would be Pine-sol, Lysol, Dow bathroom cleaner or any non-abrasive cleansers. Cleaning these units thoroughly and regularly is more important than the cleansers. Cleaning it once a week should be sufficient.
Fiberglass units:
These units have a gelcoat finish and we recommend a non-abrasive cleaner such as Pine-sol, Lysol, and Dow bathroom cleaner, etc. With these units, cleaning is very important (including the entire wall surface), and cleaning it once a week is sufficient. We recommend waxing these units with a car wax such as McGuire’s or Zymöl or a fiberglass wax such as gel-gloss. This waxing should be done every 6 months and this will help in the maintenance of these units.
Molding compound type fiberglass such as Sterling, Florestone and Fiat units:
They recommend the following cleaners for these units; Mr. Clean, Lysol bathroom cleaner, Comet or Spic n' span. Cleaning should be done weekly and to make cleaning easier, we recommend using an acrylic bristle brush. For very tough stains, we recommend using Bar Keepers Friend. This cleaner is not to be used as a regular cleaner, as it is an abrasive.
Cultured Marble:
These units have a high gloss gelcoat finish and we recommend a non-abrasive cleaner such as 409, Fantastic, Dow bathroom cleaner, etc. Application of these cleaners should be applied with a soft cloth. We recommend waxing these units with a car wax such as McGuire, Zymöl, Turtle wax or a fiberglass wax such as Gel-gloss. Waxing should be done every 6 months. Do NOT use daily shower cleaners with these units.
Helpful hint for above: On this type of high-gloss finish, scratches can appear very easily. Decorator items such as porcelain or pottery will require using felt underneath them.
Refinished tubs:
We recommend cleaning these units with Dow bathroom cleaner, Lysol Foam bathroom cleaner and a variety of non-abrasive cleaners. Application of these cleaners should be done with a soft cloth. For hard to get out stains, we recommend Soft Scrub with an acrylic bristle brush. Cleaning should be done once a week. Waxing is recommended every 6 months. We recommend waxing these units with a car wax such as McGuire, Zymöl, Turtle wax or a fiberglass wax such as Gel-gloss. Do NOT use daily shower cleaners as they act as a stripper. Some products list this on their labels.
Clear glass shower doors:
We recommend cleaning these doors with non-abrasive glass cleaners. Clear glass shows water spots very quickly and we recommend a squeegee to dry off water from glass after every shower. This will help maintain the doors.
